Some of the Main Great Bands

Van Gogh

Zvonko Djukic, Djule (guitar), Srba Radivojevic (drums), Djordje Petrovic (keyboard), Goran Milisavljevic (vocal) and Predrag Popovic (bass guitar) founded the Van Gogh band in 1986. They offered catchy tunes based on rock tradition. They had a break after their debut album and continued working in 1990, when Djukic took over the vocal’s role. They were known for their distinctive melodious rock songs and well thought through performances.

Dorian Gray

Massimo Savic (guitar, vocal), Vedran Cupic (guitar), Branko Terzic (drums), Toni Ostojic (keyboard) and Emil Krnjic (bass guitar) established the band in 1982. Songs of their albums “Sjaj u travi/Shine in the grass” (1983) and “Za tvoje oci/For your eyes” (1985) were influenced by Roxy music and Japan. The band dissolved in 1986 but was re-established in the mid-nineties without Massimo, who pursued a successful solo career.

Laboratorija Zvuka

Brothers Pedja and Mladen Vranesevic were performing cover music and founded Laboratorija zvuka in 1977. They performed their concerts with a team of thirteen members, where, apart from the musicians, there was a place for a champion in body building as well as unique and atypical, marginal individuals. They produced four albums and covered various topics, from healthy nutrition to erotica. Mladen Vranesevic passed away on 15 July 2006.

Piloti

Kiki Lesendric (vocalist and guitar player) established the band in 1980. Piloti captured the audience with frequent club performances. With their third single
record “Kao ptica na mom dlanu/Like a bird in my hand” released in 1987 they profiled into pop sound. They stopped working at the end of 1998. Lesendric
went on to compose songs for Greek musicians and created film music. In 2008 he returned to his home stage with a solo album “Mesec na vratima/The
moon at the door”.

D’Boys

Pedja Jovanovic (vocalist and guitar player) and Misko Mihajlovski (percussion, rhythm) formed an atypical duet. Their hit “Mi smo D’Boys/We are D’Boys” became a party anthem and attracted many new fans . Pedja formed a classical band after the early successes, and released three more albums. D’Boys ceased activities in mid-eighties.

Fit

Davor Lukas (vocalist), Zorko Opacic (guitar player) and Miro Tesevic (bass guitar) formed the band. Their drummers were Dean Benzia and Sinisa Banovic. They fostered energetic rock sound and released two albums. Their third album was recorded but never released as the war started. They resumed work in autumn 2008 and recorded their concert CD album.

Laki Pingvini

Although their first concert was on 29 November 1979 at the punk masquerade ball, their continuous work commenced only in 1982. Combining new wave and pop sounds, their biggest hits were “Mozda, mozda/Maybe maybe”, “Sizika”, “Moja devojka/My girl” and “Ne, nisam tvoj heroj/I am not your hero”. Their work stopped altogether in 1986.

Boa

They emerged in 1979 influenced by art rock and new romanticism. Albums “Boa” (1981) and “Ritam strast/Rhythm of passion”(1982) comprised of songs “Milion/Million”, “Stol/Table”, and “Jer ljubav je/Because love is”. They split in 1984, but in a renewed composition since 1989 they produced four albums.

Galija

Nenad Milosavljevic, influenced by hippie culture and symphonic rock sounds, formed the band in 1977. Over the years, many musicians joined and left the band. Following their sixth album “Daleko je sunce/The sun is far” in 1988, the pop rock sound modernized their style. Milosavljevic composes theatre and film music.

Daleka Obala

Vocalist Marjan Ban, Jadran Vuskovic guitar player, Boris Hrepic bass guitarist and Zoran Ukic drummer formed the band in 1985. Their debut album “Dalekaobala/Distant coast” released in 1990 combined rhythm & blues and national popular music sounds. They recorded six studio records until 2001 when they stopped working and performing.

September

Thomir Pop Asanovic (ex Time) (who played the pipe organs) and singer Janez Boncina (ex Srce) established the band in 1975. Their sound was based on jazz rock with many respectable musicians working with them. They played mainstream rock in their albums “Zadnja avantura/Last adventure” (1976) and “Domovina moja/My homeland” (1979). They stopped working in 1979.

Videosex

One of the first electro-pop bands was established in 1983 when Matjaz Kosi (keyboard), Iztok Turk (drums) and Janez Krizaj (bass guitar) started working with Nina Sever (keyboard) and Anja Rupel (vocal). By 1992, when they split, they had released four albums. Afterward, Anja Rupel continued her solo career.

Generacija 5

Dragan Ilic (keyboard) and Dragan Jovanovic (guitar) founded this jazz-rock band in 1977. However, their first singles promoted instrumental pop-rock. They are still active and have released four studio records. Singers Jovan Rasic, Goran Milosevic, Djordje David and Dejan Najdanovic were also band members.

Zana

Guitarist Radovan Jovicic, Zoran Zivanovi Kikamac (keyboard) and singer Zana Nimani initiated this pop-rock band in 1979. Marina Tucakovic was their main support at the beginning as a song writer. They performed catchy tunes and had successful albums but when Zana left the band in mid-eighties, the band switched to the lighter melodies that they perform to date.

Parni Valjak

Guitarist Husein Hasanefendic Hus, Jura Padjen and the singer Aki Rahimovski initiated Parni valjak in 1975 when the band “Grupa 220/Group 220” stopped
working. By the time the band broke up in December 2005, they had recorded 27 studio and concert albums. The band was re-initiated in 2009. Rahimovski
died in January 2022.

Metak

Zelkjo Brodaric Jappa (guitarist and singer) initiated band Metak in 1978. They promoted influential rock sound with a series of hit songs: “Da mi je biti morski pas/I wish I was a shark”, “Ona ima svoju dragu mamu/She has her dear mother”, “Split at night”. In 1981 they split, having released two albums. Jappa became a reputable producer.  

Oktobar 1864

Guitarist Goran Tomasevic formed the band in 1984. After Tanja Jovicevic, an impressive singer joined the band, they switched to sophisticated jazz, pop and soul sounds accompanied by trumpets. They released three albums during their career and stopped working in autumn 1991.

Zlatni Prsti

Guitarist Momcilo Radenkovic founded the band in Zajecar in 1970. They recorded a series of single records and the albums “Zlatni prsti/Golden fingers”(1976) and “Nokaut/Knockout”(1979). They changed the band’s name to Nokaut after the release of their second album.  They stopped working at the beginning of the eighties.

Aerodrom

Guitarist Jura Paden and singer Zlatan Zivkovic, Remo Krstanovic bass guitarist Kartagine and drummer Paolo Sfeic founded the band in 1978. They nailed it with hit songs “Kad misli mi vrludaju/When my thoughts run wild”, “Stavi pravu stvar/Put the right thing on”, “Fratello”. After they stopped working in 1987, Padjen played with bands Azra and 4 Asa and recorded solo albums.

Djavoli

Guitarist and singer Neno Belan founded band Djavoli in 1984 introducing a charming pop rock sound that was based on sounds from the sixties. With a series of hits and sympathetic ballads they charmed the audience, but at the beginning of war they stopped working, having released three albums.     Belan continued a successful career with the band Fjumens.

Vampiri

Vamipiri was established as a band in 1987 and they gained the audience’s affection thanks to the specific arrangements of the “doo wop” music from the fifties. They were especially successful with recording music for the film “Mi nismo andjeli/We’re not angels”. They recorded five records and stopped working in 1998. Since 2005, the singer Aleksandar Erakovic Era has led the band The Bestbeat which performs re-arranged songs of The Beatles.
