Acoustic Performers

Ivica Percil

Protest and folk singer Ivica Percl joined the group “Roboti” as a rhythm guitarist. His first big success was in 1968 with the song “Stari Pjer” (“Old Pier “) which was During his career he recorded a series of singles and only one album.  He died on March 16, 2007.

 

 

Tomaž Pengov

This romantic singer-songwriter made his debut with the cult album “Otputovanja” (“Departures”) in 1974. Emulating Leonard Cohen, he engaged in acoustic music with four poetic records, and a concert disc in 2006.

S vremena na vreme

This band started in 1972, with Miomir Dukić Miki (guitar, vocals), Vojislav Dukić Koki (guitar, vocals), Ljubomir Ninković (guitar and vocals) and Asim Sarvan (vocals and guitar).  They were among the first to use folklore motifs in their songs, taking heavy inspiration from The Beatles. In 1979 they concluded their performances and released the electronic music album “Paviljon G” (“Pavilion G“). They made a comeback onto the scene with the albums  “Posle kraja” (“After the end“) (1995) and “Unplugged“ in 1997.

Suncokret

This acoustic group was founded in January 1975 by Bora Đorđevic. Along with gentle ballads, they also performed folk-inspired themes. The singers Snežana Jandrlič, Bilja Krstić and Gorica Popović all contributed to the band. After the release of their only album, “Moje bube” (“My insects“), Bora left the group and founded Riblja čorba. Snežana continued with the group, turning to a rock sound, but after releasing two singles, the band stopped playing.

Ibrica Jusić

Ibrica Jusić (Dubrovnik) made his debut at the “Zagreb ’68“ festival, where he won the audience award for the song, “Celluloidni pajac” (“Celluloid spider”). He often performed around the world, showing his musical talents primarily at festivals, but also at concerts at the Dubrovnik summer disco “Amanet (“In trust”) (2003), in which he covered Sevdalinka (Bosnian folk music).

Srđan Marjanović

After brief stints working with some rock groups, Srdan Marjanović started his career as an acoustic musician in 1972, which was marked by the songs “Idi” (“Go”) and “Mi smo jedno drugom govorili vi (“We talk to each other formally”). Over time, he returned to the rock sound and was most active in the eighties.

Jani Kovačič

Singer-songwriter Jani Kovačič started his career in 1976. Raised in the hippie movement, he composed songs that ranged from poetic stories about everyday people to politically cynical analysis of life. He recorded his songs on a dozen albums, and covered Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen. He has published books of prose and poetry, taught philosophy in high schools and is still active musically.

Jadranka Stojaković

Jadranka Stojaković (Sarajevo / Tokyo) started her career in the late sixties performing acoustic music. She gained respect with a series of hits, including, “Ima neka tajna veza” (“There is a mysterious link between us”, “Čekala sam,” (“I was waiting”), “Sve smo mogli mi” (“We could do everything”), “Muzika je svirala” and (“The music was playing”. In 1988, she moved to Japan, where she remained actively engaged in music and regularly released CDs. She died in 2016.

Lutajuća srca

The lineup of this acoustic trio consisted of Spomenka Đokić (vocals), Milan Marković (piano, guitar, cello) and Miroljub Jovanović (guitar). They started working together in 1970. They won over the audience with the gentle songs “Još malo” (“A bit more“), “Jefimija” and “Brod za ščenka (“Puppy boat”) in which Spomenka’s coloratura soprano stood out. In the mid-eighties, they stopped working, but returned to the scene in 1998 with a CD, ” Sanjam te noćas” (“I’m dreaming of you tonight”).

Tomaž Domicelj

Tomaž Domicelj started his career at the end of the sixties as a protest singer. Over time, he switched to the electric guitar, and had great performances. He published a number of records, wrote about music, and at the same time engaged in translating music books.

Vlada i Bajka

Vladimir Marković and Dragutin Balaban started together in 1968 . They often covered Simon and Garfunkel songs. By the 70’s they released four singles, and then in the 80s withdrew from the music scene. They made a comeback album “Ja nisam ja” (“I am not me“) released in 1994.

Buco i Srđan

Ljubomir Pende Buco (vocals) and Srđan Đivoje (acoustic guitar and vocals) started with their work in 1971. They were well-versed acoustic players, and released three albums and a number of singles. The majority of their songs were composed by Đelo Jusić. They stopped performing in 1981, when Srđan moved to America. Pende and Fran Matušić made another album  (“Sanjalica” (“Dreamer”) under the band name of Buco and Fano in 1983.  Pende released three solo albums and made a mark as a painter.
